High-Pressure Structural Evolution of Disordered Polymeric CS2

چکیده
Carbon disulfide is an archetypal double-bonded molecule belonging to the class of group IV–group VI, AB2 compounds. It widely believed that, upon compression several GPa at room temperature and above, a polymeric chain type (−(C═S)–S−)n, named Bridgman’s black polymer, will form. By combining optical spectroscopy synchrotron X-ray diffraction data with ab initio simulations, we demonstrate that structure this polymer different. Solid molecular CS2 polymerizes ∼10–11 GPa. The disordered consists mixture 3-fold (C3) 4-fold (C4) coordinated carbon atoms some C═C double bonds. C4/C3 ratio continuously increases further 40 Upon decompression, structural changes are partially reverted, while sample also undergoes partial disproportionation. Our work uncovers nontrivial high-pressure evolution in one simplest systems exhibiting as well phases.

HIGH PRESSURE BEHAVIOR OF KCl: STRUCTURAL AND ELECTRONIC PROPERTIES
The high pressure behavior of the structural and electronic properties of KC1 is studied with use of the density functional pseudopotential method within local-density approximation. Atzero pressure, the rocksalt phase is found to be lower in energy than CsCl structure. However, we predict a phase transition into CsCI structure at a pressure of about 1.5 GPa. The calculated ground state pro...
متن کاملHigh-pressure polymeric phases of carbon dioxide.
Understanding the structural transformations of solid CO(2) from a molecular solid characterized by weak intermolecular bonding to a 3-dimensional network solid at high pressure has challenged researchers for the past decade. We employ the recently developed metadynamics method combined with ab initio calculations to provide fundamental insight into recent experimental reports on carbon dioxide...
متن کاملNovel high pressure structures of polymeric nitrogen.
The search for the stable monatomic forms of solid nitrogen is of great importance in view of its potential application as a high-energy-density material. Based on the results of evolutionary structure searches, we proposed two high-pressure polymeric structures to be stable beyond the stability field of the synthesized cubic gauche structure--the layered Pba2 or Iba2 (188-320 GPa) and the heli...

The Chadegan metamorphic complex is a WNW-ESE- trending antiformal structure located in Sanandaj-Sirjan structural zone, Iran. The inner core of the structure is made of orthogneiss, containing eclogitic lenses. Schists and marbles lie structurally above theorthogneiss and crop out in the external limbs of the antiformal dome. Two main deformational episodes have been documented in theschists an...
